fabric, thread, paint
Nine flags made into a three metre long banner. A collaboration with performer Naomi O'Kelly, and students at Parklands, a special educational needs school in Helensborough. Made during the Artists in Schools residency at Cove Park.
A story told collaboratively during sessions at the school was illustrated by the students on fabric, using materials relevant to the storyline, such as feathers, ice cubes, dough, paint and wool. I then embroidered over the top of their images, echoing the gestures used in their creation and the marks made. This was then given to the class to display at the school, the embroidery acting as a means of accessing the images for those with restricted sight.
